Ali Riaz
Ali Riaz is a political scientist and an author. He is a Distinguished Professor at the Department of Politics and Government at Illinois State University, USA, and a nonresident senior fellow of the Atlantic Council. Dr. Riaz is the President of the American Institute of Bangladesh Studies (AIBS).
Professor Riaz is currently serving as special assistant to Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus with the rank and status of an adviser. He was the Vice-Chair of the National Consensus Commission. Chief Advisor of the Interim Government Professor Muhammad Yunus was the Chair of the seven-member Commission. Dr. Riaz led a nine-member Constitution Reform Commission between October 6, 2024 and February 15, 2025.
As a political scientist, Riaz served as a Visiting Researcher at the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Institute in 2023 and a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars in 2013.
