Only a democratic country can ensure rights of its citizens: Ali Riaz

Only a democratic country can ensure the rights of its citizens and establish rule of law, while an independent judiciary can provide justice to the doorsteps of the people, Vice President of National Consensus Commission Ali Riaz said today (14 May).

"The National Consensus Commission wants to create a national charter through uniting everyone to build a prosperous, democratic and accountable state, which will provide a clear-cut outline for future Bangladesh," Riaz said during a meeting with President of Robert F Kennedy Human Rights Kerry Kennedy at the commission's office at the National Parliament Complex in the capital.

He further said, "The primary discussion with the political parties will end soon and the commission will initiate discussions for the second phase within a very short time."
