Ali Riaz

Ali Riaz is a political scientist and an author. He is a Distinguished Professor at the Department of Politics and Government at Illinois State University, USA, and a nonresident senior fellow of the Atlantic Council. Dr. Riaz is the President of the American Institute of Bangladesh Studies (AIBS).

Professor Riaz is currently serving as the Vice-Chair of the National Consensus Commission. Chief Advisor of the Interim Government Professor Muhammad Yunus is the Chair of the seven-member Commission. Dr. Riaz led a nine-member Constitution Reform Commission between October 6, 2024 and February 15, 2025.

As a political scientist, Riaz served as a Visiting Researcher at the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Institute in 2023 and a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars in 2013.
